Department of Health warns of warns of uMhlanga Hospital job scam

The scam advert alleges there are more than 100 vacancies for different departments within the hospital.

THE KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health has urged the public to be aware of an advert targeting unemployed people.

The advert, which has the letter head of the department of health, says it is “looking to hiring unemployed members of the community” for several positions at Netcare uMhlanga Hospital.

Spokesperson for the KZN Department of Health Ntokozo Maphisa said the scam alleges there are vacancies for security, general workers, laundry staff, admin work and drivers.

“We are strongly urging members of the public to avoid falling victim to such scams, and rather familiarise themselves with the recruitment processes of the Department. We urge everyone to note that the Department advertises its vacancies on reputable newspapers; the Department of Public Service and Administration’s website (dpsa.gov.za); and on its own official website (kznhealth.gov.za), as well as occasionally on its official Facebook page,” Maphisa said.

“We are urging our fellow compatriots to note that there is always a reference number included for every advert, and the fact that the Department only receives physical job applications, not via email or fax. We encourage the public to exercise caution, and verify all adverts circulated on social media with the above mentioned sites, or to contact the Department on 033 395 2111, and confirm the authenticity of advertised posts.”

In July last year, a similar scam involving uMhlanga Hospital’s name was used with the aim of soliciting money from the public.
