Glenhills nursery helps out Enviro Fixers

Owner of Hingham Nursery, Julie Scragg, said she wanted to support the group in whatever way she could when she read the article.

FOLLOWING the removal of plants inside and at the entrance to Bridgevale Park and Nature Reserve, Hingham Nursery has stepped up and donated a R2 000 voucher to Enviro Fixers Durban North.

The community-minded group has been behind the beautification of the park and has maintained and uplifted the green space through community funding.

In August, Northglen News met with Helen Koch of Enviro Fixers who asked members of the public and visitors to refrain from removing plants or trees from the park after aloes and crassulas from a bed inside the park, and at the entrance gate on The Drive, were taken.

Owner of Hingham Nursery, Julie Scragg, said she wanted to support the group in whatever way she could when she read the article.

“I got into contact with Helen and offered to help. We donated a R2 000 voucher for them to buy plants. Having visited the space, I know the hard work they’ve put in and it was heartbreaking to see someone uproot that. I would urge visitors not to remove plants from natural spaces and I hope this donation will help in some shape or form for Enviro Fixers and their cleaning and greening projects,” she said.

Koch said she was delighted by the donation and was struck by how close-knit the community was.

“When we initially did the story about the plant removals, there was a fantastic response from the community, many of whom donated the very same plants from their gardens. Our faith was restored and we were able to replace the plants in the affected areas. When Julie from Hingham contacted us, we were so delighted and blown away by the generosity shown. We’ve now earmarked the voucher to help beautify the flower beds at the entrance to the Greenwood Park police station on Buxton Road,” she said.
