Old is the new, new at Cansa Charity Shop

Clothing, glassware, kitchen utensils, shoes, curtains, plasticware, books and jewellery are some of the items which are still available, but Cansa is looking to restock.

BITS and bobs, trinkets, clothing, home decor and more; is what you can find at the Cansa Charity Shop which opened in August at their premises in Umbilo.

The idea came about when the team realised they needed to come up with creative ways to fund raise as the organisation could no longer hold massive public events as it had in the past due to Covid-19.

“Our supporters have come in and donated items in number and we are slowly running out of stock which is great. The first sponsorship came from Mr Price who donated defective clothing items. Volunteers came in and fixed the defects on the garments which was so heartwarming,” said fund development co-ordinator for Cansa, Thobile Gumede.

Clothing, glassware, kitchen utensils, shoes, curtains, plasticware, books and jewellery are some of the items which are still available, but Cansa is looking to restock.

“We accept anything that people would like to donate, provided that it is in good condition and can be resold,” she said.

The shop is open from Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 15.00.

“As time goes by, we would like to open on Saturdays provided that we have the stock and customers indicate that they would like to come and shop on the weekend,” said Gumede.

People are encouraged to drop off their unwanted, resalable items at the Cansa offices at 619 Umbilo Road. For now, there are no other drop-off points, but Cansa is happy to collect should the need arise.

“I encourage communities to rally and hold a donation drive. Once all the items have been collected, they can contact us and we will arrange for collection,” she said.
