This initiative fell under Operation Basadi, a women led roadblock, which saw vehicles stopped and checked for general roadworthiness of the vehicle and road safety.

“With this particular vehicle checkpoint, it was women-led and it was great to see. Part of this operation was also about police visibility and showing the community the police are keeping an eye on the area. It was also a multi-disciplinary operation involving Metro Police. Two motorists were issued summons for traffic violations and there will be more operations like this going forward,” Lombard explained.

He added several vehicles were patrolling key entry and exit points in the area on a daily basis.
