Support Durban North school’s winter warmth campaign

According to Northlands Girls‘ High School the blankets will be donated to quintile one schools in and around Durban.

WITH winter well and truly on its way, Northlands Girls’ High School has embarked on a winter warmth campaign with a blanket drive collection for the less fortunate.

The drive started earlier in the month and is open to both learners, staff and residents in the north Durban area.

According to the school’s marketing manager, Kerran Backhouse, the blankets will be donated to quintile one schools in and around Durban.

“All South African public schools are categorised into five groups, called quintiles. Quintile one is the ‘poorest’ quintile. Our idea was to pay it forward to those less fortunate. We’ve asked the learners and staff to either donate a new blanket, well-loved blanket (clean and in good condition) or donate money towards the purchase of blankets. If residents would like to support our drive, they can drop off the blankets at our reception,” Backhouse said.

Matriculant, Jordan Classen spoke to Northglen News about what the drive was all about.

“More than 150 blankets have already been donated which is just fantastic. In fact, we had one learner donate 60 blankets in just one day. We haven’t set a target of how many blankets we’d like to collect but more to do as much as we can for the quintile one schools by giving the gift of warmth,” Classen said.

The blanket drive ends this Friday, 28 May.

If you would like to donate, contact the school on 031 571 1100.
