SPCA toast to Humphrey’s ‘paw’some fundraising journey

The precious pooch recently surpassed the one million rand mark in terms of fundraising for the organisation and was rewarded with a special tea at the Durban & Coast SPCA recently.

HUMPHREY’S winning attitude, soulful brown eyes and wagging tail are just some of the reasons why the local hound has become such a superstar in uMhlanga.

But it is also his support in raising funds and awareness for the Durban & Coast SPCA that has got tails wagging. The precious pooch recently surpassed the one million rand mark in terms of fundraising for the organisation and was rewarded with a special tea at the Durban & Coast SPCA recently.

SPCA marketing manager, Tanya Fleishcer, said the tea was to recognise Humphrey and local resident Alwyn Immerman’s efforts to support the association.

“To break the one million rand milestone is just incredible. Humphrey is one in a million having raised that amount for the SPCA, be it in cash, food and blankets since he was adopted from our premises in 2011. He is also the SPCA’s ambassador and we wanted to recognise both Alwyn and Humphrey for the amazing fundraising work they do. We invited all of his special supporters to the tea to celebrate this special and momentous achievement,” she said.

His owner and La Lucia resident, Alwyn said the tea was a culmination of 10 years of hard work.

“He is my best friend and I’m so honoured that he has been able to touch so many people’s lives. When I adopted him from the SPCA he was a sorry sight, a real ragamuffin – unkempt, withdrawn and submissive. But it’s his soulful eyes and his loving demeanor that are just so special and it’s amazing to see what we’ve achieved in a decade. It was an incredibly special event with Humphrey’s closest supporters and I’m grateful to the Durban & Coast SPCA hosting this event in our honour,” he said.
