VIDEO: Security officer helps deliver baby in Avoca

An off-duty nurse from the community also assisted with the delivery.

A SECURITY officer, who helped a mother in labour in Avoca on Thursday morning, says he is excited that the baby girl is doing well.

Bradley Govender of Marshall Security received a request to help a woman in suspected labour in Bailey Road, Avoca.

When he arrived at the premises, he found the woman seated and screaming loudly due to the immense pain.

Her water had already broken.

“I calmed her down by talking to her and gave her a sip of water. When she woke up to stand, she gave birth,” said Govender.

“She is wonderful; she’s cute. I am vey excited for this,” he said.

Tyron Powell, spokesperson for the security company, said an off-duty nurse from the community also came to assist.

“The  woman gave birth very soon after the nurse arrived. The baby girl was born at 3.15am today. The mother and baby were transported to hospital ” said Powell.
