Enviro Fixers tend to Durban North mosque’s verge

The greening project involving the revitalisation of the flower bed was welcomed by congregants from the mosque who worked with the NPO to help plant indigenous, water-wise plants.

A COLLABORATIVE effort between Enviro Fixers Durban North and residents tackled the flower bed outside the Durban North mosque (Masjid ur Rahmaan) on Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway) last week.

The greening project involving the revitalisation of the flower bed was welcomed by congregants from the mosque who worked with the NPO to help plant indigenous, water-wise plants.

Jane Troughton, a member of the Durban North conservancy and Enviro Fixers Durban North said the several indigenous plants including, aloes and succulents, were donated by congregants from the mosque and the community.

“This is just a wonderful example of the community coming together and beautifying the suburb. We had a host of volunteers who helped plant a colourful and water-wise, wildlife attracting bed in front of the masjid. We are really excited about this project and if you see the before and after of the flower beds you’ll see just how much of a difference our planting has made,” Troughton said.

Trustee of the mosque, Yusuf Desai, also praised Enviro Fixers for their help in beautifying the flower bed.

“I think this adds to the beauty of our masjid and the proof is in the pudding. The flower bed looks immaculate and this was a wonderful community involved project. As a spin off from this, some of the congregants have asked for the members from Enviro Fixers to help them with their verges which is just fantastic,” he said.
