VIDEO: Kenville road collapse requires urgent attention, says ward councillor

Maharajh said he fears the condition of the road may worsen due to a number of factors including heavy rains.

WARD 34 councillor, Bobby Maharajh, has called for urgent action to address a road collapse on Kew Road in Kenville.

More than a week ago, one side of the road began caving in, and ultimately collapsing, causing significant damage to the road and inconveniencing several residents.

“I was first informed of the problem by Wayne Govender, the chairperson of the Kenville/Sea Cow Lake Ratepayers Association that the road had begun caving in. A local businessman kindly donated hazard tape and other material to close off the road as it was not and still is not safe for motorists.

“This is a vital road for residents of Sea Cow Lake and Kenville and my priority is the safety of the residents.

“We’ve left one lane open on the affected section to allow residents to access their properties but I fear the collapse could cause further damage and impact more of the road network. There is a major crack running through the middle of the road beyond the affected area. I fear this collapse may cause further inconvenience for residents in the area for several months to come as this isn’t a quick fix,” he said.

Maharajh said he was in contact with senior members of the Ethekwini Traffic Authority (ETA) about the collapse.
