Hijacker linked to various crimes arrested on M4 near Glenashley

The suspect was allegedly fleeing the scene of a hijacking in Shakaskraal earlier that day.

MEMBERS of the SAPS Provincial Trio and Vehicle Task team arrested a suspect linked to a hijacking case on the M4 Ruth First Highway last Wednesday.

The suspect was allegedly fleeing the scene of a hijacking in Shakaskraal earlier that day.

He was part of a three-man gang who had stolen the vehicle at gunpoint on the north coast.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North SAPS, information was received that the vehicle was heading towards Durban via the M4.

“The task team, consisting of Commander of the task team, Capt Pam Nair as well as Constable Nikesh Sukdeo and Constable Marc Naidoo, spotted the suspect on the M4 going southbound. A high-speed chase occurred and the vehicle was stopped and the suspect was arrested and charged with carjacking.

“A gas gun was recovered in the compartment underneath the seat and the hijacked vehicle, a VW Polo, was recovered. Further investigations have now linked the suspect to various cases including house robbery, theft of motor vehicle and carjacking,” he said.

Police are still looking for two of the other suspects involved in the hijacking case.
