CROW shares adorable mongoose pup photos

The pup will be hand reared at CROW on the same milk formula that a kitten would drink.

A WATER mongoose pup is the newest addition to the Centre for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW). With the fuzziest coat and cutest claws, the pup has captured the hearts of the CROW staff.

The centre took to their Facebook page to share some heart-melting photos of the pup feeding from a bottle and peering contently at the lens.

Marketing manager for CROW, Alex Kögl said water mongoose (also known as marsh mongoose) usually have two to three pups which stay with their mother until they are weaned at a few months old.

“This defenceless little pup wandered into someone’s kitchen alone, so we can only assume something must have happened to its mom for it to have become separated from her. He will be hand-raised at CROW where he is getting frequent Royal Canin kitten milk bottles (mongoose belong to the same family as cats) and lots of quiet time to help reduce stress,” she added.

“In addition to making for heart-melting photos, that thick, soft fuzzy fur has practical uses. As their name suggests, water mongoose live and hunt in and around marshes and other bodies of water. Their thick coats insulate them against cold water and sharp non-retractable claws ensure they can crack open even hard crab shell. They can even become fully submerged and hold their breath for a short while,” added Kögl.
