Two arrested in Effingham million Rand drug bust

Police acted on information that drugs were being manufactured at the Bhoola Road home and a sting operation was put in place.

AN Effingham couple was arrested and found in possession of drugs to the value of R1.5 million on Friday afternoon by members from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit.

The arrest of the suspects aged 40 and 47 was made on Bhoola Road.

Provincial SAPS spokesperson, Captain Nqobile Gwala, said the police acted on information that drugs were being manufactured and a sting operation was put in place.

“Police found two occupants in the process of manufacturing cocaine utilising cocaine powder with different additives. A further search led to the recovery of 85 moons of rock cocaine, 3.7 kg of cocaine powder, 15 spice bottles containing rock cocaine and five boxes of bicarbonate of soda at the same premises. Cash of R94 160, suspected to be the proceeds of drugs, was seized by police. The value of the recovered drugs is R1.5 million,” she said.

Gwala added the suspects would appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
