Trespasser and housebreaking suspect arrested in Durban North

The suspect has been terrorising residents and being a nuisance factor in the neighbourhood for a number of months said Blue Security.

A SUSPECT who is allegedly linked to several housebreakings in the north Durban area was arrested on Sunday afternoon.

According to Blue Security’s spokesperson, Andreas Mathios, the suspect was arrested in Glenashley after trespassing on a Margaret Maytom Avenue property.

“Security service providers are familiar with the suspect, who has been terrorising residents and being a nuisance factor in the neighbourhood for a number of months. This is a very satisfying and successful arrest,” said Mathios. “Sunday’s arrest followed an initial panic activation by a resident in the area who had spotted the suspect running through their property during the afternoon.

“The resident shared the information on the Home Hawks Neighbourhood Watch group in the area and provided a clear description of the suspect. We searched Virginia Bush and spotted the suspect and a foot chase occurred. Backup was called for and, with the assistance of a fellow officer, he later apprehended the suspect a few blocks away,” he said

Mathios added the suspect was positively identified and handed over to Durban North SAPS.

“He will be charged with trespassing and fingerprint analysis will also be done to cross-check the system and establish whether he can be connected to other housebreaking incidents in the area,” he said.
