Sunningdale singer releases new gospel song

As a worship leader, Jeremy Govender is passionate about gospel music and the message it sends to the community.

A TRAUMATIC armed robbery at his home inspired Sunningdale resident and gospel musician, Jeremy “Jemz” Govender to complete his latest single, Awesome God. Govender said the song was written ten years ago.

“The song was birthed in 2010 by Harold Francis, a seasoned worship leader in Durban during a time of worship. It was not until 2020 that God impressed it on my heart to complete and release the track, after going through a traumatic armed robbery at my home in Sunningdale,” he said.

The song is based on the Bible scripture, Psalms 130.

“It’s a call for people to put their trust and hope in Jesus during these uncertain times. The song is my journey from deliverance, to an expression of expectation, to a place of peace,” said Govender.

He hopes the song will uplift his community.

“This song inspires the listener to live by faith and not by sight, no matter the circumstance or situation they may face,” he explained.

Govender said he started singing at a young age at local churches, concerts, and schools.

“I grew to become a Christ-centred worship leader and released my debut EP, ‘Who am I’ in 2016,” he said.

“I am family orientated and believe strongly that ministry begins at home. My family also has a passion for music. My wife, Christal Govender is a worship leader at her local church, and my son, Sky Govender is a member of the world-renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir School,” he added.
