Cameras and laptops stolen in Durban North robbery

Some of the stolen items, including laptops and cameras, were recovered and returned to the owners.

VARIOUS items were stolen after suspects broke into a home on Margaret Maytom Avenue at approximately 2.50am on Tuesday, 19 January.

The suspects dropped some of the items in Hinton Grove as they fled the scene while security officers pursued them. Some of the stolen items, including laptops and cameras, were recovered and returned to the owners.

Tyron Powell of Marshall Security said they responded to the scene after their Emergency Dispatch Center received an alarm activation from Margaret Maytom Avenue.

“It was established that the suspects had placed a chair under an aircon compressor and gained access through an open window, by climbing on top of the compressor,” he said.

A short while later, Marshall Security received beam activations from Hinton Grove, said Powell.

“The suspects in question were on the property and when they noticed our team, they dropped a few items. Unfortunately, they managed to evade arrest, jumping over several property walls,” he said

Powell said some of the recovered items were positively identified by the Margaret Maytom Avenue residents.

“The other stolen items that were found on scene were handed over to the Durban North SAPS, as it could not be established where the items were stolen from,” he added.

Captain Raymond Deokaran of the Durban North SAPS confirmed that a case of housebreaking was opened.
