Glenhills NPO takes Christmas dinner to the streets

Eshia Govender said the NPO would love to network with other organisations to continue their work in the New Year.

GLENHILLS NPO, Each one reach 1.org is gearing up to serve a hot meal to the homeless this Christmas. Founder, Dr Eshia Govender said the meals will be delivered to people on the street on Christmas.

“This Christmas we would like to serve gourmet Christmas dishes with pudding and a drink to those on the streets. This will be served with a mask, sanitiser, set of fresh clothes, hygiene pack, contact details for rehabilitation, a ‘letter from God’ and a motivational quote on the packaging of the meals. Would you like to share a meal? We are in collecting leg of lamb, roasted veggies, bread rolls, Christmas cookies, hygiene packs, masks, previously-loved backpacks and mini-sanitizers,” said Govender.

The meals will compliment the NPO’s work in the community, added Govender.

“Our heart is never to just tick a box but to nurture lives into transformation. This requires time. These meals are tools that are used to build genuine trustworthy relationships. If we really wish for our communities to change, we have to get our hands dirty and keep our hearts clean and free from judgment. Change is possible through unity. We cannot do much alone but together we can do so much more,” she said.

Govender said they we would love to network with other organisations and teams to continue their work in the New Year.

“As we are a research rich team we are working on creating a database of networking partners based on location and temporarily struggling families that could be rostered through transformation. We struggle as unfunded organisations but if we pool our resources and direct our skills and time, we will be able to do more. If you would like to train with us in January, let us unite to restore dignity,” she added.
