Volunteers needed in La Lucia to wrap gifts for fundraiser

The gift wrapping is done on a donation basis to raise funds for the charity. 

NON- profit organisation, dedicated to childhood cancer awarenes, Rainbows and Smiles is looking for volunteers to wrap gifts at the La Lucia Mall from  16 to 24 December.

The gift wrapping is done on a donation basis to raise funds for the charity.

Debbie Riggien, KZN Child support manager for Rainbows and Smiles, said this is the second year they are hosting the gift wrapping fundraiser.

“We will wrap shoppers’ gifts after they have done their Christmas shopping. We ask for a donation, there is no set amount. All funds will go to Rainbows and Smiles. I have worked with them for the last five years, we support children fighting cancer,” she said.

“We go into the hospitals and visit the children, we also pay medical bills and, if necessary, we do home visits. Our aim is to make the treatment less traumatic by being there for them and spoiling them,” added Riggien.

The gift wrapping initiative takes part in two shifts each day- from 9am to 1pm and 1pm to 5pm.

“All students who volunteer for two shifts or more, will receive a Community Service Certificate for their hours worked. We are looking for at least three people per shift,” said Riggien.
