Think pink for Greenwood Park breast cancer awareness

Librarian, Nosipho Sibisi said the Firwood Library hosts the event annually.

FIRWOOD Library hosted a breast cancer awareness event on behalf of the Libraries and Heritage Department at the Greenwood Park Hall recently.

Librarian, Nosipho Sibisi said the Firwood Library hosts the event annually.

“This year things changed a bit because of Covid-19. We usually host the event in October as we all know October is breast cancer awareness month. While this year’s event was delayed, we are still sharing the information none the less. Usually this is held at the library, but this year we went all out to reach the community and create awareness,” she said.

“Our community has this perspective that only women get breast cancer, but that’s not the case, men are also affected. That’s why we decided to spread our wings and reach out to as many people as we could, not forgetting the Covid-19 regulations such as social distancing. The programme was successful,” added Sibisi.

Among the guest speakers for the day was cancer survivor and Reach for Recovery volunteer, Presheen Ramdhani.

Those who attended the event also heard from the Redhill Clinic which was represented by nursing sister Mbali Pato.

Sibisi said the event was a success with about 50 people attending.
