Start street light audit list urged Ward 35 councillor

According to Nicole Bollman, several street lights in ward 35 are either not working due to technical faults or in some cases, theft.

WARD councillor, Nicole Bollman has urged residents within her ward to start a quarterly street light audit list on their roads to help address hundreds of defective lights.

According to Bollman, several street lights in ward 35 are either not working due to technical faults or in some cases, theft.

What is more, she said residents are left in the dark because there had been no word from the City on when or if the lights would be repaired.

“In some areas I’ve noted that opportunistic criminals are using the cover of darkness to commit crimes. There are several roads where large sections of the roadway are left in the dark. I know there is a specialised unit within the City’s structures that deals specifically with outages and faults but residents are getting no joy.

“I’m urging residents to start a quarterly street light audit list on their roads where the numbers of every non-functioning street light are recorded and emailed to me. From previous issues, requests to the electricity department seems to go into an abyss. All we are asking for is some communication and accountability from the department,” she said.

Bollman also explained what to do when doing an audit.

“If a fault has been logged with a reference number I urge residents to email me on streetlights@nicolebollman.co.za,” she said.

“I need the fault number, the address, the street pole number and the residents’ name and contact number.”

Bollman added the audit was specifically for ward 35 street light issues.

The areas covered in Ward 35, Virginia, Glenashley, La Lucia, uMhlanga, Somerset Park, Gateway, Prestondale and Izinga Ridge.
