Heather Grove residents voice frustration over repair project

Residents say sidewalks and verges are yet to be reinstated following the repair project.

RESIDENTS of Heather Grove have expressed their disappointment that a repair and restoration project to their residential road, which was badly damaged by a collapse more than two months ago, has still not been completed.

In July this year, a burst pipe caused a water leak leading to the lower half of the road, near the intersection of Effingham Road to cave in. While the pipe was repaired another collapse rendered the road unusable.

For more than six weeks residents were not able to access their homes using Heather Grove entrance due to the state of the road.

The City then re-laid a section of the water pipes, replacing them in the process and resurfaced the damaged section of the road.

Now, however, the sidewalks and residents’ verges are yet to be reinstated.

Heather Grove resident, Fahim Ball, expressed his concern the rainy season may scupper any future repairs to the road leading to more damage to the pavements and verges.

“Every time it rains my bank erodes, as does pieces of the pavement which then washes down the road and leads to a sand deposit build-up on Effingham Road. It is something I was hoping the City would consider because it led to several problems. I am pleased the road has been reinstated and that we can now drive on it but the pavements have been left unfinished for several weeks now.

“My other concern is pedestrians are having to walk in the middle of the road because there aren’t any pavements placing them at risk. This period is our rainy season and my concern is that if the project isn’t completed we are going to be left with more problems. We are also approaching the festive season break where workers from the various departments go on leave and we are unsure when the pavements will be reinstated,” Ball said.
