Hijackers open fire on police, security officers on Chris Hani Road

A third suspect, who is linked to the hijacking, is still at large confirmed Marshall Security.

TWO suspects were arrested following a high-speed chase and subsequent shootout on Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) on Wednesday morning just after 10.40am.

According to Marshall Security spokesperson, Tyron Powell, the suspects had earlier hijacked a local resident of her white Mercedes Benz on Kenneth Kaunda Road (Northway).

“The suspects were spotted speeding along Chris Hani Road and our officers as well as members of our Special Operations Team and Metro Police gave chase. In their attempts to evade arrest, the driver of the stolen vehicle crashed and the trio opened fire on the pursuing officers.

“Officers returned fire and the suspects then attempted to flee on foot. After a short chase Metro Police apprehended one suspect while Marshall Security apprehended the other. The third suspect hijacked another vehicle and managed to evade capture,” Powell said.

A firearm and the hijacked Mercedes Benz were recovered.

Police and security officers are attempting the locate the second vehicle that was hijacked, as it was fitted with a tracking device.
