Frustrations grow over Kenville Road closure

The project was allegedly due for completion in May last year however there has been no further update from the City about the project leading to growing frustrations from residents.

LOCAL residents say they are no closer to finding out when the newly constructed bridge from Sea Cow Lake Road to Kenville Road will be completed.

In 2018, the City announced that Kenville Road would be closed (for a year) as work was being carried out to realign Inanda Road/Sea Cow Lake Road to ease traffic congestion.

Anil Beekrum of the Sea Cow Lake/Kenville vice chairman Ratepayers Association say residents are at their wit’s end in trying to find out when the project would be completed.

“We understand the realignment project is delayed but all we are asking is for the newly constructed bridge connecting Kenville Road to Sea Cow Lake Road to be completed. Residents are frustrated as this project has now stalled at various points and at this point the construction site has been inactive for months. We’ve heard there is a funding issue which has halted construction work but this isn’t good enough. We want an answer from the City on how long this project is going to take because of the inconvenience it has caused residents for the past few years,” Beekrum said.

The news has concerned residents, parents and learners at the Habibia Soofie Saheb Badsha Peer (HSBP) Institute of Learning and those using the Soofie Saheb Badsha Peer Masjid for daily prayers and functions who say they have been adversely affected by the road closure.

There was no response from the City at the time of going to print.
