NORTHLANDS Girls’ High School (NGHS) recently donated 120 school desks to the Mzuvele High School in KwaMashu.

During the hard lockdown, the school was targeted by criminals and also sustained substantial fire damage to the property after a classroom was set alight.

Principal of Northlands Girls’ High School, Theven Reddy, said the School Governing Body were instrumental in getting the donation off the ground.

“To be able to give back, especially to a school in a neighbouring suburb is extremely pleasing. We’ve had the desks in storage for a number of years and the school governing body encouraged us to find a school to donate the items to. When we heard about what had happened to Mzuvele High School during the lockdown, we felt it best to help a local school in need,” Reddy said.

Principal of Mzuvele High School, Zinhle Msubo said she could not thank Northlands Girls’ High School enough for the donations.

“The donation has meant the world to us. Due to the vandalism and thefts we’ve had a severe shortage of desks at the school. We were at a point where children would be sharing desks. We were also concerned for our matric learners as we didn’t have enough desks to accommodate them for the December exams but thanks to Mr Reddy and Northlands Girls’ we are now able to. It’s a huge relief for us. We welcome any donations to help the children at our school,” she said.
