Action in Autism to host festive fair in Durban North

Local traders are invited to book a table to sell their wares at the market.

DURBAN North school, Action in Autism (AiA) will host their first fundraising market day on 5 December from 9am until 2pm. The market will have a festive theme as it falls in the festive season, just a few weeks before Christmas, at the end of the school term. The market will close with a concert at 5.30pm featuring local musicians.

“We are hoping that people will come out in their celebratory mood. Each of our early intervention classes will do something special like set up a table at the market or decorate a classroom. It’s also a chance for the community to come and see what we do,” said Kirsten Miller, AiA director.

Local traders are invited to book a table to sell their wares at the market.

“This is a first for us, we are inviting external traders if anyone would like to book a table to present at the market, they can contact us via email at infor@actioninautism.org.za or 031 5633 039. We will just charge for the table or the space and any proceeds they make will be theirs,” said Miller.

“The young adults from our SHAHUMNA Skills Transference Centre will be driving this project, so they are very busy at the moment creating products and getting ready for the market,” she added.

The market will include coffee, food, baked goods and fresh vegetables from the school’s garden.

“We will also have pre-loved clothing, books and household items on sale. We would love the support of the community. All the proceeds will go toward supporting autistic people, particularly supporting the early intervention and therapy programmes for young autistic children,” said Miller.

AiA facilitator, JP Joubert said Lasandra Majola is among the seven performers who have signed up to perform at the concert so far.  Joubert will perform some of his own songs and a student from the SHAUMNA centre will DJ as well.

“Tickets for the concert are R60 for adults and R20 for children over seven-years-old, while children under seven can enter for free. There will be a variety of music but mostly popular songs that are played on the radio,” said Joubert.
