La Lucia residents tied up in armed robbery

The suspects, who were armed with knives, threatened the couple before they were tied up and locked in a bathroom.

A LA Lucia couple was tied up in armed house robbery on Tara Crescent in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesperson for the Durban North police station, the incident occurred at about 4am.

“The couple was asleep when the husband heard a noise. When he woke up, he was confronted by three men who were all armed with knives. The suspects threatened them and the couple were placed in the bathroom before being tied up.

“They then ransacked the home stealing several items. The suspects made off with a flat screen TV, jewellery, cell phones, a laptop and a Canon camera. It is unclear if the suspects were on foot or escaped in a vehicle. No arrests have yet been made and thankfully no one was injured,” he said.

This is the second house robbery in seven days after a similar incident in La Lucia.

“In that incident, the suspects made off with a laptop, a MacBook Air and a pair of sunglasses. They then fled on foot through the dining room window,” Deokaran said.
