Rotary Club of Umhlanga begins collection for Bobbi Bear following theft

The Bobbi Bear offices have been targeted for the second time this year.

THE Rotary Club of Umhlanga has begun a collection in aid of Bobbi Bear, an NPO helping sexually abused children, after the organisation’s premises was ransacked over the weekend.

This the second time the NPO has been targeted this year. In a post on the organisation’s Facebook page, thieves cleared out the premises, even stealing an air conditioner.

“Our office is literally situated right next door to the front office of a busy police station. Our office was totally ransacked, everything we have was stolen. Rape bags for the children, toys, and extra clothes we keep for our rape victim’s were also stolen. Even the aircon taken off the wall and smashed,” the post read on Facebook.

Rotarian Vanessa Champion said the uMhlanga club was doing a collection of any items for Bobbi Bear.

“It is just terrible what happened to Bobbi Bear as they care for children who have been sexually abused. We’ve started a collection and Granny Griff’s Sugar Shack at 29B Uitsig Road have agreed to be a collection point. The collection point is in operation between 10am and 3pm.

“On Friday, we will collect the items at 3pm and distribute them to Bobbi Bear over the weekend. We hope the north Durban community will come out and support the collection as they really need all the help they can get,” she said.
