Three arrested in connection with Springfield Park business break-in

Greenwood Park SAPS officers spotted the getaway vehicle in the Durban North area near Prospect Hall Road.

THREE suspects were arrested and detained at the Durban North SAPS after fleeing the scene of a Springfield Park business robbery on Saturday, 25 July at 9am.

Six suspects stormed the business and one suspect held the owner up at gunpoint as three TVs, 16 laptops, 15 monitors, two cellphones and R3000 cash were stolen. The robbery raked up to R239400 in total.

One suspect was arrested in Durban North when officers from Greenwood Park SAPS spotted the getaway vehicle from the robbery, a white Ford Ranger, near the Hyper-By-The-Sea on the same day, said Captain Carmen Rhynes, from the office of the eThekwini District Commissioner.

“Observation was held on the vehicle by the SAPS members and Marshall Security. A short while later, three suspects entered the vehicle and began driving along Riverside Road when the SAPS members together with Marshall Security pulled the vehicle over. One of the occupants was positively identified as being involved in the robbery that morning,” said Rhynes.

According to Rhyne, the suspect took the members and Marshall Security to an address in KwaMashu where the officers recovered a number of electronic items in a house and arrested a second suspect.

“Further information led to the arrest of third suspect, shortly after, in the Siyanda area. The suspect was pointed out by the other suspects,” said Rhynes.
