Rugby legends and Sharks unite for charity
Legends and players took on the challenge of packing and distributing food parcels which are then distributed to various charities around the country.
MEMBERS of the South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) and The Sharks joined in the #RugbyUnites charity campaign on Sunday at the Kensington Square SUPERSPAR.
Legends and players took on the challenge of packing and distributing food parcels which are then distributed to various charities around the country. So far the #RugbyUnites initiative have distributed more than 1 600 food parcels over the past 11 weeks to various charities around the country with some of the SA rugby franchises playing their part.
Also on hand was Durban North runner, Jenna Challenor and a few former Hollywoodbets Dolphins players.
On Sunday, the food parcels packed were distributed to local NPO, The Domino Foundation and Denis Hurley Centre who feed the homeless.
Kensington Square SUPERSPAR store manager, Michelle Young, said she was thrilled to be part of the initiative.
“Rugby Unite is all about giving back on the community and we see our store as part of that community so it was important we stand in solidarity with the players. When SARLA contacted us about this initiative we were only too happy to be involved. We also donated several blankets and hundreds of masks to the cause. And it was great to see some of the former and current players shop for items to donate in our store,” Young said.
The Sharks CEO, Eduard Coetzee said they were honoured to be part of this great initiative, which has grown so quickly over a short period of just a few weeks.
“It was great having The Cell C Sharks to be part of this fantastic Rugby Unite initiative, which celebrates the values of family and community. In these trying times it is important that we use, not just use our collective voices, but also actively get involved in making a difference,” he said.
