Teenagers arrested for school theft in Cornubia

The suspects, aged between 15 and 16, are thought to have forced a window open to gain entry into the school

THREE teenage suspects appeared in the Verulam Magistrate’s Court yesterday after they were found in possession of eight tablets, three phone chargers and other items. The items, including groceries, were allegedly stolen between March and May when a Cornubia school was broken into. This follows a spate of school break-ins across the province.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula urged parents to report stolen items on their property.

“I am pleased with the recent arrests made by Verulam team of detectives, in the fight against criminals who steal and vandalise the school property. It is also disturbing to learn that most of the suspects involved in burglary at schools are juveniles. We are appealing to parents to make sure that they wary about the whereabouts of the children and also to report to the police if they find  school property at their premises,” he said.

The suspects, aged between 15 and 16, are thought to have forced a window open to gain entry into the school. They were profiled to check if they were linked to other burglary cases reported in Verulam and surrounding areas.
