LISTEN: Durban North NPO uplifts the poor with food hampers

Their role has now taken on added significance with the coronavirus pandemic as the NPO has spread the love by trying to support other communities in need with food hampers and essential items.

FOR local resident, Arianne Hayes-Hill, putting the needs of others first has always been her main priority. The local pastor from His Life Vineyard in Durban North has been working with the Malacca Road Informal Settlement community for several years in the hopes of making a difference to the residents’ lives and especially in the lives of the children of the underprivileged community.

Two years ago, Hayes-Hill, set-up the Amaphupho Yezingani (Dreams of Children) Seed Fund, an NPO that seeks to equip the next generation with life skills, tools, ability and mindset to shift from a life of poverty to a life of purpose.

Her role has now taken on added significance with the coronavirus pandemic and Hayes-Hill has spread the love by trying to support other communities in need with food hampers and essential items.

“We’ve been able to give more than 500 hampers consisting of toilet paper, oil, tea, sugar, mielie-meal and a few vegetables. We can see the need is growing with each visit to a settlement we go to. I’ve been in contact with ward councillors, Bobby Maharajh and Shontel de Boer and Greenwood Park CPF member, Brian Daish on how best we can help,” she said.

Hayes-Hill said she hoped to reach as many vulnerable communities as she could as the effect of the pandemic spreads.
