Durban promenade to open under strict conditions

The promenade will be opened from 6am to 9am to residents residing within a 5km radius.

THE Durban promenade will be opened for public use tomorrow under very strict conditions. This as the eThekwini Municipality begins the process of sanitizing and disinfecting the entire facility today. eThekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda previously stated that the Municipality would not risk exposing residents to the city because it was at the epicentre of the pandemic.

Just hours after the initial decision was announced, the eThekwini Municipality’s Acting Head of Communications, Mandla Nsele, said the promenade will be open, although other public spaces, including ablution facilities will remain closed until further notice.

“According to the regulations, only residents residing within the 5km radius are going to be able to use the facility from 6am to 9am. Law enforcement will unwaveringly monitor all activities allowed under level 4 and will not hesitate to deal with non-compliant members,” he said.

“Residents are encouraged to comply unceasingly with regulations of level 4 of South Africa’s Durban promenade by among others wearing masks and practice social distancing,” added Nsele.
