Four suspects arrested in M4 Covid-19 roadblock following armed robbery

Various goods stolen from a home in La Lucia were also recovered by police in the roadblock.

FOUR armed robbery suspects were arrested by members of the Durban North SAPS in a Covid-19 roadblock on the M4 on Sunday morning. The gang had earlier that morning robbed and tied-up a couple on Tara Crescent in La Lucia.

It is believed the victim, a pastor at a local church, was asleep in his home when he heard dogs barking.

He then went out to investigate and when he returned inside his home he was accosted by the gang of five men.

According to Haden Searles, chairman of the Durban North/uMhlanga CPF, after gaining access to the home, the gang accosted the homeowner.

“From the information I’ve received the suspects had forced the victim to transfer a large sum of money from his account into one of theirs. They then stole several items including two laptops, cell phones, digital cameras, cash, jewellery and clothing and fled the scene in a Renault Scenic going south on the M4 towards the City. The Durban North SAPS were hosting a Covid-19 roadblock when they spotted the suspects. Four of the five suspects were arrested in the roadblock and all the items were recovered,” Searles said.

A fifth suspect involved in the incident is currently at large but Searles believes an arrest is imminent.
