Chartwell Drive in the Umhlanga Village was eerily quite with cafes and restaurants locked up. While a string of cars were parked along the road, there were no pedestrians to be seen.

The decrease in activity was already visible as we drove down Umhlanga Rocks Drive heading into the village.

In Durban North, streets in the suburbs were quiet, although cars clumped outside of supermarkets marked increased activity and groups of people were spotted outside banks on Swapo Road.  The once bustling intersection of Blackburn Road and Umhlanga Rocks Drive was empty and Chris Hani Road (North Coast Road) was silent except for a few motorists passing through.
