Glenashley intruder caught in kitchen

The suspect claimed that he lived in the house when confronted by the security officer.

THE quick response of a local security company’s officer at the weekend resulted in the arrest of an intruder who was nabbed in the kitchen of a home in Glenashley.

Fidelity ADT’s district manager, Vaughan Pillay said their armed response officer, Selby Masango,  arrived at the Adrienne Avenue premises within minutes of the alarm activation.

Pillay said when Masango arrived he noticed that the back door to the house had been forced open.

“The officer then proceeded inside where he found an unknown man in the kitchen who claimed to be a resident of the home and stated that there was no emergency. During any response our officers and the control room are in constant communication with each other to ensure that the appropriate authorities or back up is notified if necessary. This collaboration also benefits the resident as he or she is informed of what is transpiring at their premises during the inspection which brings them peace of mind,” Pillay added.

The customer was contacted by the Fidelity ADT control room and instantly confirmed that this man was definitely not a resident. The suspect was immediately detained and handed over for arrest to members of the Durban North SAPS.
