SA’s second Coronavirus patient confirmed

The Gauteng woman was among ten who traveled to Italy.

A SECOND Coronavirus patient has been identified in South Africa- a woman, from Gauteng who travelled to Italy recently. This according to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) which issued a statement on Saturday.

“She did not have symptoms related to COVID-19 when she arrived back in South Africa through the OR Tambo Airport.
As part of the contact tracing, the team took swabs and conducted laboratory tests which came out positive for COVID-19. The patient has been self-isolated at home and has now been admitted to the isolation facility. All other contacts are actively being followed up,” read the NICD statement.

The woman was among ten who travelled to Italy, according to the NICD.

“As part of the ongoing contact tracing, following the identification of the first positive case of COVID-19 in South Africa, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, a division of the National Health Laboratory Service, confirms a second positive case of COVID-19,” read the statement.
