Durban North lass upstaged during the perfect proposal

Valentine's Day is a great 'excuse' to be romantic for this newly married Durban North couple.

“WE went to a music festival and Prime Circle were playing and in a whirlwind of courage I decided to go up on stage and ask him to marry me. He said no,” said Tami Marriott, “Then he got down on one knee and proposed to me and said he wanted the honour of asking me to marry him. I said yes! The crowd went crazy – it was really unforgettable.”

For the newly married couple, Valentine’s Day is a great “excuse” for romance.

“While neither of us really like indulging in capitalist trends, we enjoy any excuse to have a romantic evening together,” said Tami.

She and husband, Dylan ‘Woogy’ Marriott were students when they met in the midst of Durban’s alternative music scene.

As youngsters, they frequented live music concerts on and off the stage, both harbouring a secret crush.

“I always loved Woogy since I first saw him on stage like some sort of long haired guitar-deity. I met him after the show and was almost too shy to talk to him but we got along amazingly and were great friends for about five years before we started dating,” said Tami.

The couple finally started dating in 2016, said Dylan.
“One night, I felt brave enough to ask Tami to kiss me and she did. We’ve been inseparable since,” he added.

It wasn’t long until he knew Tami was ‘the one’.

“Soon after we started dating, we took a road trip down the coast and I’m not sure what it was but somewhere along that trip I realised no matter what I never want to let go of this beautiful woman,” he recalled.

And the feeling was mutual because three months later, Tami staged the perfect proposal in front of a massive crowd.

Soon they had set a date and were dancing their way to a dream wedding, although there were some mishaps on the way.

“Leading up to our wedding, we went for dance classes. Bearing in mind we both have two left feet and during one of our spins Tami turned around and managed to punch me square in the face, it was an awkward bruise to explain a week before our wedding,” said Dylan.
