SAPS reveal names of uMhlanga shooting victims

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, said Brigadier Jay Naicker, spokesperson for the SAPS. 

SAPS have confirmed that an alleged drive-by shooting on Umhlanga Rocks Drive claimed the lives of Bilquees Hussain (29) and Bradley Hiralal (34) on Saturday, 28 December.

Hussain was declared dead at the scene after paramedics and SAPS rushed to assist. Hiralal, who was in a critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound to his head, was rushed to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Spokesperson for Crisis Medical, Kyle Van Reenen said advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise Hiralal at the scene. Both sustained multiple gunshot wounds added Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911.

“Charges of murder are being investigated by Durban North SAPS. It is alleged that [Saturday, 28 December] at 13:20, two vehicles seen were travelling at a high speed on Umhlanga Rocks Drive in La Lucia Ridge, travelling from east to west, when the occupants of one vehicle opened fire at the other vehicle,” he said.

The victims were found seated in a black BMW  on Umhlanga Rocks Drive near the Douglas Saunders Circle at about 1pm.
