Pedestrians robbed at knife-point in Durban North

The incident occurred on Ennisdale Drive at about 3.30pm.

DURBAN North Police are investigating a case of robbery after two pedestrians were robbed of their belongings at knifepoint on Ennisdale Drive on Sunday evening.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, the incident occurred at about 3.30pm.

“The victim and his friend were walking towards Swapo Road (Broadway) when they noticed a gold Etios pull alongside them. Five men got out of the vehicle and four suspects began searching the victims while a suspect stood watch holding a knife.

“The men demanded their wallets and cell phones and then after riffling through their pockets jumped into the getaway vehicle and fled the scene,” Deokaran said.

According to Deokaran, there has been a number of incidents scattered across the policing precinct where pedestrians have been targeted.

“The robbers normally target lone pedestrians late at night or in the early hours of the morning. We are urging pedestrians, residents and visitors, where possible, to walk in larger groups,” he said.
