Hales blasts Heat to record breaking MSL chase

The Durban Heat now shift their focus to their clash with the Jozi Stars at Imperial Wanderers on Saturday.

AN unbeaten 97 from Alex Hales helped the Durban Heat to a third Mzansi Super League win on the trot when they chased down 195 to beat the Paarl Rocks by six wickets in Paarl on Wednesday.

With a third successive run chase under their belt the Heat batsmen have shown their worth recently. Captain Dane Vilas believes that there is work to do but is more than satisfied with the path the team is on.

“We are playing some really good cricket and the guys are putting in some great team performances at the moment,” Vilas said. “If we continue with the same energy and confidence that we have at the moment we have a good chance of going all the way – that is the plan. With saying that there are some good teams that are playing some good cricket.”

Despite the batsmen putting their hands up regularly for the Heat, Vilas praised his bowlers for their efforts on a good batting surface in Paarl.

“The way that Malusi (Siboto) and Andile (Phehlukwayo) bowled at the back end to restrict them to under 200 was fantastic. That gave us a lot of confidence and momentum going into our batting innings.”
