TODAY marks the start of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children which runs from 25 November to 10 December.

Over the period, government will convene a series of dialogues on violence against women and children to focus on the problem, discuss the causes and to find appropriate solutions.

Through the dialogue sessions government will interact with community members who experience violence and abuse. This year’s campaign is themed: Enough is Enough: 365 days to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).

The head of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in the Service, Major General Bafana Linda, has applauded the team for prioritising the safety of women, children and vulnerable groups.

“With the launch of the 16 days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children upon us, we have intensified our efforts in hunting down perpetrators of gender-based-violence. We thank our dedicated officers for tracing and tracking down these suspects who are linked to other cases of abduction and human trafficking. We have embarked on a nationwide search where we are tracing perpetrators of crimes against women, children and vulnerable groups with the aim of bringing those perpetrators before court to answer to the crimes they have committed,” she said.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to launch the campaign with a visit to the Victim Support Centre at Witpoort Police Station in Limpopo today.

The visit to the police station will be followed by an event at the Ga-Seleka Community Hall, expected to be led by the Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities Maite Nkoana-Mashabane.
