The market is run by Lyn Wilson with funds raised from the market going toward the running of the Golden Hours Special Needs School.

Wilson said the plan for the upcoming week was to have the normal market on a Sunday, but bigger and better, and a night market on Friday evening.

“It’s incredible to think we started this market with just 12 stalls and over the years we’ve grown to accommodate close to 80 stall holders. We’ve become one of the most popular markets in the area, thanks to the generous support of the community. I remember the area where we hold the market was just bare ground with rotten mangoes lying all over the floor and there were a few naysayers in the beginning saying I was wasting my time.
“I never gave up because I saw the potential in the market and what it could do for Golden Hours school, where I taught at for a number of years. I’m urging the community of Durban to come out and support our celebratory market on Sunday. There will be a cake cutting and a number of on the spot prizes and raffles for amazing prizes to be won, so there’s plenty of fun to be had,” she said.
The 20th anniversary celebrations begin on Sunday, 17 November with a night market on Friday, 15 November. For more information, contact Lyn on 083 262 3693 or visit their Facebook page for more.
