WATCH: Effingham resident hijacked, kidnapped in driveway

Police are still searching for the suspects involved in the hijacking which took place on Monday afternoon.

SHOCKING footage of a hijacking and kidnapping in Effingham was caught on camera by a neighbour’s CCTV camera on Monday afternoon.

According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, the victim, in her 40s, had arrived at her home on Jain Road in Effingham about 2.20pm when she was jammed in by four suspects in a white VW Polo.

“The victim had just pulled into her driveway with her Mercedes Benz C Class when the suspects stopped behind her. She was bundled into the backseat of the vehicle and the suspects drove off with her.

“Together with Tracker SA, our Special Operations Team located the vehicle in the Ntuzuma area. When our officers arrived in the area, the four suspects involved in the incident fled on foot leaving behind the vehicle used in the hijacking. The victim was found unharmed, but shaken and her vehicle was also recovered. Members of the Independent Crisis Team were on hand to council the woman when she arrived back home,” he explained.

Rajiv Jaynath, Chairman of Greenwood Park CPF Sub Forum 2, praised the work of all involved and was one of the first responders to sound the call for help.

“I sent out a message on our various WhatsApp groups as an alert and we were able through the assistance of various roleplayers to locate the victim and the vehicle within 20 minutes. Thankfully the mother of two was unharmed in the incident. We are urging homeowners to be wary of this modus operandi when it comes to hijacking. If you have automatic gates or garage doors, try and open them before pulling into your driveway entrance,” he explained.
