WATCH: Snake activity peaks, warns Jason Arnold

The 41-year-old said he has already received dozens of call-outs for a number of venomous snake species including black mambas, green mambas, and Mozambique spitting cobras.

FROM October to the end of May there is little rest for Sunningdale’s snake man, Jason Arnold. The 41-year-old said he has already received dozens of call-outs for a number of venomous snake species including black mambas, green mambas, and Mozambique spitting cobras.

Last week Arnold rescued more than 10 snakes, venomous and non venomous, in just five days. Speaking on the peak in cobra activity, Arnold said his most recent rescue was in Clare Estate.

Speaking on the spitting cobra, Arnold advised residents not to get too close.

He added should the spit hit the hair, face or arms, the venom poses no threat, however in the eyes, it causes an immediate stinging sensation and blindness and should be washed out immediately with water or milk?

Arnold said the best way not to get bitten by a snake was not to interfere with it. Snakes only become scared and defensive when they are put in a position where they feel their life is being threatened.

Sunningdale's snake man, Jason Arnold caught this female green mamba in eMdloti. He has warned of a number of snake species on the move following the increase in temperatures around the province.
