New uMlazi Baby Home needs help moving in

The Baby Home is now appealing to the public for assistance with transporting the goods to the newly established uMlazi Baby home.

WHEN the Peace Agency, a non-profit organisation announced its intention to establish a new Baby Home in uMlazi, to meet the ever-growing need for registered childcare facilities, the news was welcomed with open arms.

The Baby Home, run by Jo Teunissen and The Peace Agency’s Justin Foxton, put out an appeal on their social media accounts for help with items for the homes and the response was overwhelming.

“The north Durban and Durban community supported us from the inception of the idea and we are delighted to say we’ve now secured a home in BB section in uMlazi. Like the Baby Home it is situated on a cul-de-sac. We’ve chosen uMlazi because, Aunty Eunice (Eunice Khumalo) lives in the area and would head up the home. She has been with the Peace Agency since its inception and has been our most senior care giver. We felt this was a beautiful way to empower her by allowing her to run the home,” she explained.

Teunissen said the home is now appealing to the public for assistance with transporting the goods to the new home.

“We would welcome any help transporting the various items that have been donated to the home. We’ve got washing machines, curtains, pieces of furniture to help set up the home. Residents who would like to help can contact me and I encourage everyone to follow our story on social media. We will be posting regular updates as things are moved in and we might realise there are further items needed for the home,” she explained.

“We also hope in time the home will become a training facility to help other women in the community and have Eunice train them. These women provide an invaluable service to the community, acting as surrogate mothers to vulnerable children on a daily basis,” she said.
