UPDATE: Former mayor’s Inanda house seized

About 10 houses were visited in the Durban area and uMhlanga.

SPOKESPERSON  for the Hawks, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi confirmed that this morning’s operation was a success.

He said the Hawks swooped down on 10 houses from uMhlanga to Chatsworth, including former mayor, Zandile Gumede’s Inanda residence during an integrated operation with the Asset Forfeiture Unit.

“It was successful. About 10 houses were visited in the Durban area and uMhlanga. The value of the assets we seized will only be determined at a later stage,” he said.

The operation, which began at 6am saw Hawks drop in on an upmarket Somerset Park home where Gumede was believed to be residing. When she was not found at the premises the Hawks headed to Inanda.

“We did find Gumede and her house was seized as well as assets inside it. We did not take anything physically. The curator and Sheriff were with us,” said Mulaudzi.

He added that the operation was ongoing although there would be no further house visits today.

“We always end an operation with a meeting,” he added

Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, provincial spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority said they are investigating whether Gumede has contravened the conditions of her bail by moving from her uMhlanga house that she supplied as her home address during her bail application.
