Police nab shop owners with bales of municipal toilet paper

The suspects were arrested during a routine Metro patrol yesterday afternoon.

A STACK of 150 bales of municipal toilet rolls were confiscated from two foreign nationals who are the alleged owners of an Umgeni Road supermarket where the stolen toilet rolls were being sold along with expired food items.

Spokesperson for the Metro Police, Parboo Sewpersad said  the two Ethiopian men were arrested during a routine patrol yesterday afternoon.

“They were not cooperating with us to let us know where they got the toilet rolls from,” he said.

They were charged with theft and handed over to Durban central SAPS.

“Police were conducting operations at all the shops and supermarkets in the area. There are some distinguishing features on the toilet paper. The municipal store supervisor was called to identify that the toilet paper was municipal property,” said Sewpersad.
