Pedestrian robbed in uMhlanga under Millennium Bridge

The suspect was approached by two men armed with a knife and a firearm.

DURBAN North Police are investigating a case of robbery after a pedestrian was robbed of his wallet and cell phone on the M41 in uMhlanga on Monday evening.

According to Capt Raymond Deokaran, spokesman for the station, the incident occurred at about 8.30pm.

“The victim was approached by two men, one of whom produced a knife and the other produced a firearm. He was under the Millennium Bridge on the M41 waiting for a taxi when the incident happened. They threatened the victim and demanded he hand over his valuables. They made off with his cell phone, wallet and bag and fled on foot,” he said.

According to Deokaran, there has been a number of incidents scattered across the policing precinct where pedestrians have been targeted.

“The robbers normally target lone pedestrians late at night or in the early hours of the morning. We are urging pedestrians, residents and visitors, where possible, to walk in groups,” he said.
