Post office closure a loss to La Lucia residents

The SAPO is yet to release a statement regarding the closure but it is believed the branch has merged with Glenashley Post Office.

THE La Lucia Residents Association has expressed their disappointment over the closure of the La Lucia Post Office. The South African Post Office (SAPO) closed the branch, situated inside La Lucia Mall, in July.

SAPO is yet to release a statement regarding the closure but it is believed the has branch merged with Glenashley Post Office.

Chairperson of the residents association, Linzi du Preez, described the closure as a loss to the area.

“We have a number of elderly residents living in the area and I know the La Lucia post office was very convenient for them. Though the Glenashley and Durban North post offices aren’t that far away it will be tougher for some of the elderly residents who are transported to the mall. We as the residents association certainly see the closure of the post office as a loss for the area,” she said.

SAPO have put a notice posted on the doors of their old premises advising them to go to use the Glenashley post office on Newport Avenue or the Durban North post office situated on St Andrews Drive in Durban North.

In November last year the Northway post office closed abruptly leaving residents confused.

What’s more in other areas around Durban some branches have also been amalgamated with others including Dalbridge, Mayville and on the Bluff.
