Fusion of dances on display at Rockwood

A GROUP of local belly dancers are encouraging Durbanites to come out and support their upcoming show fusing together different dance styles. The Belly Divas Dance Collaboration 5 show takes place on Saturday, 17 August at the Rockwood Theatre, Sibaya.
Northglen News recently chatted to one of the dancers, Nandi Mzobe to find out more about the show.
“This is our fifth dance collaboration and we are all very excited because this will be the first time we are hosting a show on a big stage. In the past we’ve performed at school halls so being able to perform on the Rockwood Theatre stage is going to be incredible. I think it’s a first for all of us as a dance studio performing on a stage this big,” she said.

Mzobe, who began belly dancing a few years ago encouraged residents to come out and support the event.
“We are all putting in quite a bit of effort and our training has intensified. I hope people from around Durban come out and support us. I don’t think many people have seen belly dancing and I think this would be great opportunity to see some awesome belly dancing. The show is an exciting fusion of dance and innovative choreography. We’ve fused hip-hop with Bollywood with line dancing and a few other styles but you have to see the show to see the end result,” she said.
The Belly Divas Dance Collaboration 5 show takes place on Saturday, 17 August at the Rockwood Theatre, Sibaya from 2pm to 4pm. Ticket prices for the event cost R100 per person. For bookings, email: admin@bellydivas.durban or contact Nandi on 076 311 2075.
