What will be the fate of Durban’s embattled mayor?

Zandile Gumede appeared at the Durban Specialised Commercial Court in May as part of the Hawks’ investigation into a R208 million DSW tender.

THE fate of Durban’s mayor, Zandile Gumede still hangs in the balance.

Gumede has been on special leave, and is currently facing a string of charges related to a Durban Solid Waste (DSW) tender.

She appeared at the Durban Specialised Commercial Court in May as part of the Hawks’ National Clean Audit Task Team (NCATT) investigation into the R208 million DSW tender.

Yesterday, the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health Nomagugu Simaelane-Zulu, who also serves as the ANC provincial spokesperson, said the party’s provincial leadership will decide the mayor’s fate in the coming days.

This morning when the Northglen News called for an update, the ANC’s media liaison officer Noluthando Nkosi said a decision had still not been made.

“The decision has not been made as yet, however, as soon as we get the statement from the party’s provincial leadership we will issue a statement on Gumede’s outcome,” said Nkosi.
